Brocante

This afternoon we went to the 67th Foire Nationale à la Brocante et aux Jambons, which takes place on the Ile de Chatou. Don't ask me what the 'aux jambons' is about. We didn't see any ham for sale. You have to pay 5 Euros to get in and the stuff is not exactly antiques (on the whole) but something called 'brocante'.

Brocante is basically old stuff that someone might be persuaded to pay something for. It is generally very pricey (10 Euros for a scabby ash-tray, that kind of thing) with an accent on the bizarre. I was browsing through one stall and suddenly found myself looking at a large, full-on oil painting of a doctor carrying out a gynaecological investigation. We had to get the children out of there, and QUICK...
